Steve Crowder, MA, LPC-S, CSAT

Steve is  a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. He has been practicing in Houston since the mid-nineties when he received his Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. He soon realized he wanted to help people with more than substance abuse issues so he enrolled in graduate school and in 1999 earned his therapist license. Steve has worked in every type of treatment area since then, including inpatient psychiatric treatment, in and outpatient substance abuse programs, community centric agencies that help lower socioeconomic clients who cannot afford traditional programs, and developed a private practice along the way. He has helped adults, adolescents and their families, and couples who were experiencing crisis in their relationships.

In 2009, Steve trained with Dr. Patrick Carnes and his team in obtaining his certification as a Sex Addiction Therapist. As a CSAT, Steve is able to help clients and their families and partners begin to heal the heart-breaking damage caused by out of control sexual behavior. A CSAT is trained to assess the client's level of dysfunction, strength of denial, and ways the client might be hiding the behavior. A CSAT also is trained in helping the partner or family member find the support they need.

Steve believes in a client-centered approach that incorporates many modern and traditional modalities to help his clients’ healing. He has 20+ years experience in group, individual, family and couples therapy, as well has helping men begin their own specialized healing that addresses the inherent issues and messages that come from being male in our modern, stress-filled world.  He has also trained with Pia Melody and John Bradshaw on the impact of messages we receive from our family of origin that keep us believing we are defective in some way.

Education

Steve received his Undergraduate and Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology from University of Houston Clear Lake. He completed his practicum while working as an LCDC at Memorial Hermann Psych and Addiction programs and The Starting Point at West Oaks Hospital.
